LinkedIn Marketing 101. A guide to surviving, and thriving, on LinkedIn in a Digital Era. With the new rolling out of LinkedIn Stories (in specific countries), there's really only 2 or 3 ways to make to make this work for LinkedIn.


Option #1: Host Live Podcasts and/or Webinars to encourage engagement and support LinkedIn growth via Thought Leaders. For example, Shay Rowbottom, Gary V, or Christopher Hummel are amazing growth-minded Thought Leaders on the Platform. They all engage daily with their Following, and seem to be going strong though the LinkedIn Algorithm is constantly changing up on them.


Option #2: Promote free ads and sponsorship for "just-causes" and not-for-profit organizations and groups. For example, at the beginning of 2020, the Student Voices roll-out of LinkedIn stories was a huge success. Mainly, because student voices, among other young users on the Platform, are yet to be heard and are hardly engaged via the aging and middle-aged LinkedIn Member demographics.


Option #3:

As explained by Pete Davies of LinkedIn:

"Stories first appeared on Snapchat, with other platforms like Instagram and Facebook adopting them soon after. They spread for a good reason: they offer a lightweight, fun way to share an update without it having to be perfect or attached to your profile forever. Does that exist in the business world? I’d hope that most of my interactions in the break room or passing people in the hall are similarly ephemeral and light."

Some very interesting food for thought, saying the least. As of now, a solid Engagement % sits around 2-3%. Which means, on average if 10,000 people see your post, only roughly 200 interact or "engage" by reacting, commenting, re-sharing, or such on the post. For Company Pages, the engagement rate is even lower. If you ask me, I'd say if you're above 1% Engagement on Posts, and your consistently getting views, your doing a great job on the platform!
